The Arts in Colorado: Literary Arts
The foundation of many creative forms- in fact, the foundation of human expression itself- is language. Even before mankind was able to put thoughts in stone, or on papyrus or paper, there was the spoken word, passed down through generations. Some of it was their own history, while others were stories created to teach, understand, and entertain.
Art forms continue to change, reflecting the changes in cultures. At the core, however, it is the way in which the written word is translated in the mind- through the imagery of a poet, the emotion of an author, the tension of a script brought to life- that shapes our world. Artists routinely borrow from each other, and particularly from the written form, as it is one of the most basic elements of our existence.
CACI recognizes the role of poets, authors, songwriters and scriptwriters in the creative mix. In an age of text-messaging and emails, it may be more important than ever to recognize the value of a firm literary foundation - not only does it give a better understanding of where we’ve been, but because it is likely the strongest indicator of where we are headed.
