The Arts in Colorado: Film

Hollywood loves Colorado- the variety of topography and culture combine for a limitless number of locations for shooting. Such movie classics as How the West was Won, True Grit, Cat Ballou, The Cowboys, Die Hard 2, Christmas Vacation, Starman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Shining, Thelma and Louise, City Slickers, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Dumb and Dumber, Independence Day, Sleeper, and War Games were shot in our state.

However, Colorado is rapidly becoming a hotbed for film production in its own right. Denver, Boulder, Aspen, and Telluride each host several film festivals per year, and a number of other communities also host festivals. There are also scores of production and support facilities in the state. Many of our major colleges and universities offer degree programs, as do several independent arts schools. Individual classes are also available. Find out how rewarding it can be to be on the other side of the camera!
